Thomas A. Lappan, President & Co-Owner

Licensed since 1970, Tom, went on to Western Michigan University where he received his BBA in 1973. Tom returned to Alpena and joined the Lappan Agency as a general insurance agent and understands all aspects of the agency operations. From the beginning, Tom has excelled in the agency as well as in the insurance industry. Tom enjoys many outdoor sports and activities including golfing, boating and hunting. Steven A. Lappan, Executive Vice President & Co-Owner

After graduating college, Steve started his insurance career in 1980 with the Industrial Indemnity Company in Southern California as a Commercial Lines Underwriter and quickly attained rank as a Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter. Steve then became part of a business development team in charge of the design and implementation of new insurance programs marketed through independent agents in 13 Western States. In 1985, Steve returned to Alpena to become a co-owner of Lappan Agency. He obtained his license and continues to provide his knowledge to clients of the agency. Steve enjoys being outdoors; some of his favorite activities include golfing, volleyball and sailing. Steve and his wife, Cathe, have two children, Sara and Lorah.

Cathe Lappan,Vice President-Operations & Secretary/Treasurer

Cathe brings over 35 years of business experience to Lappan Agency. Her career began in the banking business as a credit analyst in Alpena, MI. She then continued her career in Tustin, CA. where she became the Corporate Credit Manager for an international company based in Japan. She accepted the position with another company as their international credit manager, which she kept until returning to Alpena. Cathe joined the Lappan Agency in 1985 and soon proved her strong background to be an asset to the company. Cathe holds the license to sell health and life products with several strong insurance companies. Cathe enjoys cooking, decorating and gardening. Her interests include youth sports, horseback riding, boating and traveling. She is also a huge Pistons fan! Cathe and her husband, Steve, have two children, Sara and Lorah.

John Lappan, Account Executive

After attending college and numerous insurance related schools, John joined the Lappan Agency. With nearly 20 years experience, John is a valuable asset to the team of professionals at the Lappan Agency. John offers his clients a broad knowledge of insurance, both in personal lines and commercial. John enjoys golfing, boating, traveling and most outdoor activities. Kenneth Smith, Account Executive

After graduating from Ferris State University with a BA in Marketing in 1969 Ken worked as a direct writer for Michigan Mutual Insurance Company until 1983, at which time the Lappan Agency entered into an agreement to acquire the Michigan Mutual's local book of business, but with the condition Ken become part of the team. Ken quickly proved to play an essential role and continues to be a strong constituent of our success. Ken enjoys most college sports, hunting, fishing and walking in the great outdoors. Ken and his wife, Marsha, have been married for 41 years and they have two children, Gillian and Mareny and three grandchildren.

Michael Dustin, Account Executive

Mike started his insurance career after graduating college in 1978 as a Personal Lines Underwriter for AAA until he left the insurance business in 1990 to become an entrepreneur. Mike learned his passion for insurance was strong and in 1995 sold his business to become a part of the Lappan Agency team. Mike currently heads the Marshall, MI location of the Lappan Agency and proves he has all the tools necessary to succeed. Mike has continued his education and recently received his Masters Degree in Management from Spring Arbor University. Mike is an avid runner and bicyclist and enjoys playing the piano and traveling. Mike and his wife, Pat, have one daughter, Jennifer.

Deborah Kaiser, Account Executive

Deb holds an AA in Accounting from Alpena Community College. She became part of the Lappan Agency team in January of 2001 as our Commercial Customer Service Representative and quickly excelled. Deb's job description was broadened to include some accounting and other services. Deb accepted the position as our newest Account Executive and will be responsible for the personal, as well as commercial, insurance needs for our current clients, but also she will attract many new clients to our family of insured's. Deb enjoys cooking and baking and being with her family. Deb and her husband, Craig, have two children, Jordyn and Jayden.

Cassie Kurth, Customer Services Representative Supervisor

After graduating with an AA in Business Management from Alpena Community College, Cassie worked for several years in the Sales and Customer Services department of a large local manufacturing firm. Then in November of 2000 Cassie joined the team at Lappan Agency as our Customer Services Representative Supervisor and is responsible for the "backroom" operations so our clients receive superior professional service. Cassie enjoys gardening, art work, music, walking, biking and traveling. Cassie is married to her husband Ken.

Sally Brilinski, Commercial Insurance Customer Services Representative

Sally joined the Lappan Agency team in January of 2007. As our newest member, she has brought with her 34 years of extensive schooling and experience in commercial insurance. Sally is responsible for the servicing needs of over 2,200 commercial clients ranging from small local contractors to large firms to our municipal and charter boats clients throughout the Great Lakes states. Sally's hobbies include sewing, gardening, remodeling her home, and camping. Sally and her husband, Alan, have seven children.

Shelby Duby, Customer Services Representative

Shelby holds a BA in Family Life Education from Spring Arbor University. Shelby became a member of our team in 1996 as one of our Customer Service Representatives handling the insurance needs of hundreds of our valued clients. Shelby is very well versed in all aspects of her job. Shelby enjoys playing softball, running and exercising. Shelby has two children, Chelsey and Brooke.

Kristi Krueger, Customer Services Representative

Kristi became part of the Lappan Agency team in April of 1998 as our receptionist and was quickly promoted to Customers Service Representative due to her ability to work hand in hand with our clients. Today, she handles hundreds of clients with their insurance needs with the high level of respect and service they deserve. Kristi enjoys arts and crafts, bicycling and also volunteers her time as a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 11. Kristi and her husband, Carl, have two children, Katrina, 15, and Jimmy, 14.
